Integrated urban development concept Recklinghausen Hillerheide

“Climate adapted planning“ for the execution of the integrated urban development concept Recklinghausen Hillerheide

On 9 October 2017, the city council of Recklinghausen decided on five lead projects, including the execution of the “Zukunftsprojekt ehemalige Trabrennbahn“ (future project former trotting course) as a part of the urban development concept Hillerheide. With this construction project, a new urban district which considers sustainable and future oriented solutions in all aspects – from construction technology, energy supply and mobility to biodiversity – should be developed. A precise mandate for the district is „Wohnen am Wasser“ (living at the waterfront).

K.PLAN from Bochum and EPC, were jointly entrusted with the scientific monitoring of the project in terms of the integration of climate adaptation measures. Within this consulting task, appropriate measures to adapt to heat periods and heavy rain events, occurring more regularly as a result of climate change, will be identified. Additionally, technical support for the integration of these measures into the planning process is offered. In a next step, the integration of climate adaptation into internal administrative processes as well as into public participation will be demonstrated.

EPC and K.PLAN are jointly in charge of providing consultation throughout the planning process. Consultation meetings and workshops with various stakeholders from within the municipality as well as external partners will take place.
